Bulk Oil

What’s the scheme about?

A year ago RCAN set up a social enterprise to help people reduce the cost of their domestic heating oil. In the first year we ordered a total of 317,810 litres of oil and saved an outstanding amount of £16,911.67 between our members, which means that they saved on average 5 ppl.

All you need to do to take advantage of the scheme is to pay an annual membership fee of £20 (£10 at the moment, please see below), and complete the membership form (please click here for membership form) and return it to us at least a week before the order deadline.

At the moment we have an introductory offer, for the next 400 members only, of an annual membership fee of £10 instead of the normal £20 charge

Why is it run?

The scheme is being promoted by Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire, by bringing communities throughout Nottinghamshire together and making the most of joint buying power, we can make savings and pass them directly to people like you whose fuel costs are high simply because you use oil-fired central heating.

The environment benefits too

Every time a tanker comes out to make a delivery, it is using a lot of diesel – a full tanker can get as little as a horrifying eight miles per gallon.  If deliveries are organised so that one tanker delivers to several customers in a village instead of making lots of individual deliveries, the fuel consumption is reduced and so is traffic in the village.

Bulk oil ordering dates

The deadline for the next orders to be sent to RCAN is 10th April 2013, which will be delivered approx at the end of April 2013. To download an order form please click here or  email: msaxton@rcan.org.uk

To view the Bulk oil buying scheme membership form. (please click here for membership form)

The last order date was – 6th March 2013

Members paid (kerosene): an average of 59.72 pence per litre

(This was made up of two different prices 58.95ppl and 60.48ppl depending on the area where you lived)

The average price quoted by suppliers on that day was: 65.59 per litre

(All prices +5% VAT)

 How it works

  1. Contact RCAN or your local co-ordinator and let them know how much oil you want to order.
  2. Once a month your co-ordinator lets us know the total oil needed from your area.
  3. During the week after the order date, the bulk oil purchase is negotiated by our oil buyer.
  4. The members price of oil and the name of the supplier for the current month will then be confirmed to members ordering that month.
  5. You pay the supplier direct for the oil they deliver.

Want to be a co-ordinator for your community?  Why not volunteer?

The Coordinators information leaflet (please click here) gives information about the role of the co-ordinator.
