Travelling Together

"Travelling Together" is a Supporting People funded service available for Gypsy's and Traveller's living in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

The project has been running since July 1st 2008 and is delivered through a partnership between RCAN and Framework Housing Association. The Framework led team work with the City communities whilst RCAN have the responsibility for the County service provision.

Project Coordinator Alexandra Raynor provides a frontline service across the County districts. Jackie Colquitt has overall responsibility for the delivery of the county work and Melanie Saxton is the first point of contact for telephone enquiries and referrals. The project is an accommodation related floating support service, which allows workers to deliver support to Service Users within their own setting whether trailer, caravan or house. To access the Service individuals must have a support need which is currently impacting or likely to impact on the stabilty of their accommodation. The Service aims to be as inclusive as possible and looks at each case individually. Consequently support packages vary and include:- Homelessness/evictions Fleeing violence / harassment Identifying alternative accommodation Benefit / income entitlements Liaising with and accessing other Services Budgeting and debt issues Family circumstances Overall the service aims to prevent homelessness and reduce isolation within the Travelling community.

The team has an understanding of the cultural way of life and works with Service Users to devise individual support plans designed to tackle problematic areas, increase independence and help Gypsyies and Travellers achieve their goals. The Service can not offer support personal counselling or deal with serious addiction problems, however we work closely with many other agencies and can help to signpost an individual to a more appropriate specialist service.

How to apply for support? For more information contact the RCAN office and ask for the Travelling Together Team. Agencies can ask for a referral package by phone / email / post or fax or alternatively to download a copy please click here.. There is no charge for the service and it is funded by Supporting People. To download a copy of the Travelling Together leaflet please click here.
