A Chair of Honour.
It is with great pride that we can announce that Liz Jefferies our Chair for the last few years has been awarded an MBE in the honours list “For services to the community in Everton, Nottinghamshire”.
“Having talked to a number of people in the Nottinghamshire area, it was quite obvious that many people felt Liz deserved the recognition that she now has received”, said Robert Crowder Chief Executive of RCAN. “Liz has so many good points, but let me give a flavour of what others have to say about her”
Liz is someone who is passionate about people and is willing to stand up and fight for justice whenever she is aware of any injustice. Liz also cares about her community and gives her time freely to make a difference, and is an all round thoroughly good person! I wish her every success.
Lynn Tupling, Retford Action Centre
As a member of NALC’s Executive Committee she represents us on the Local Strategic Partnership in Bassetlaw, and on rural transport groups where she is able to put forward the rural prospective in relation to transport issues. Liz’s commitment to rural life is clearly demonstrated by her willingness to get involved in all sorts of activities from the Local Befriending Scheme to the Local Strategic Partnership. We are always grateful for her support and commitment to our Association.
Lynda Ogilvie, NALC County Secretary
Liz recently completed 25 years’ service as a member of the Parish Council, during which time she has served several periods of office as Chairman and Vice-Chairman. She is devoted to her work as a parish councillor, and plays an active role in everything the Parish Council does. In a rural community such as Everton, planning issues assume great importance, and Liz can always be relied on to make a constructive comment. I have been Clerk to the Council since 1999, and I think it true to say that she has not missed more than a couple of meetings in that time.
2006 was a momentous year for the Parish Council, when, under Liz’s chairmanship, we achieved Quality Council status. Furthermore, we won our population category of the CPRE Nottinghamshire Best Kept Village Competition, and went on to win the Best of Notts Award.
David Wright, Clerk to Everton Parish Council
What is particularly commendable is that Liz gives unstinting commitment at some considerable personal cost as she always underestimated her own abilities and contribution.
Bob Middleton, Chief Executive of Rural Community Council Nottinghamshire up till 2007
